Small world

Last weekend I did back to back sessions with families from Jacksonville. Since we moved from there and still own a house in Florida (it’s an easy commute to the base and for sale if anyone is in the market, hint hint hint!) it was one of those “small world” moments. The W’s just got here and are still busy exploring every nook and cranny of Okinawa. Sounds like they’re doing a great job so far. Also, little G just had his first birthday. He’s not much younger than my baby (err, gigantic toddler) and you know how I’m always on the lookout for cute little boyfriends for them! They even have something in common already– not such a fan of walking on the sand! A solid foundation for a relationship, right?

Pregnancy photography is so much different than the typical family session. I had been doing so many family portraits back to back lately that this was a fun change of pace. Of course my maternity sessions are always focused on the couple anyway. That doesn’t mean that we can’t have a few of mama alone though. She looks like she really is glowing, doesn’t she?

And yes, if you’re wondering if that’s rain in the last picture. Sure is! No sooner than dad-to-be said, we don’t have much time, it’s coming in fast, it started raining on us! As it started to come down I begged them to keep playing for just a couple minutes before we ducked in for cover. I do like the rain shot. I also love the one of her leading the way. That one really captures her personality I think! But then again, I like them all! It’s really hard to pick which ones make it to the blog! You tell me, which photo is your favorite?

Do I have to say it? The J’s are also moving soon. Very soon. Like so many other families, they want to capture their life that has been here in Okinawa for the last few years. They chose a park and beach near their house where they have spent many an afternoon playing. I love it when we use a location that has a special meaning for that family. The other thing I just loved about this session was how fun mom & dad were! They wanted some couples shots since the last portraits of the two of them were their wedding photos. And they had all sorts of great ideas! And we tried them all. Some worked out, some not so much… but we certainly had a good time regardless. My favorite image of the session though was totally spontaneous. Mom & G just being themselves and the results were fabulous.

Another family is on their way out of Okinawa. But before they go, we thought we’d squeeze in one last photo session! With two girls and a third on the way, I asked Dad how he felt about never getting to see the inside of the bathroom again? I think he’ll manage to find a way to put up with another pair of beautiful eyes in his life! Personally, I’m feeling sorry for myself that I’m not going to get the chance to meet the little one. But, I know they’re excited to be going back home to Texas. Good luck K family!
