Maybe you noticed, but it rained every weekend in March. For an on-location, outdoor photographer, this is not a good thing. Who am I kidding, for a mom of small children, this is not a good thing! I had to reschedule some (not all!) clients, but even so, working around the weather meant that we couldn’t wait for the picture perfect day. Because we’d still be waiting. Recently, I’ve had some conversations with friends and clients that surprised me. It seems that most people out there think everyone in my portfolio just got lucky and the stars aligned to give them beautiful weather and a perfectly well behaved child for picture day. Not so! We’ve been out there on overcast days, in the rain, splashing around trying to get their family photos! (Oh, the trials and tribulations of not being an indoor portrait studio!) Afterwards, I might have to wave my magic wand a bit to present them with their sparkly new photographs, but they’ve all been thrilled with the results!
I wanted to share a couple notes from recent sessions. The first one was from Double-O

We only got about 45 minutes into the session before we called it on account of the drizzly rain that had been with us the whole time and was only getting worse. As I left, she thanked me for “trying” and assumed the day had been a waste of time. Little did she know!![]()
Wow! The pictures are wonderful! I’m amazed that you were able to get such good shots that day. The pictures look like it was a beautiful day, not gloomy at all. It’s hard to believe we were rained out. The kids were so comfortable with you. It wasn’t like a photo shoot at all, just a day at the beach. Thank you for taking the time to capture the Os’ character.
Thanks,
Karen
And the next one was from Growing Like a Weed.

It didn’t officially rain on us, but it sure was threatening to the whole time!
Kim- You did it again! I love the pictures and just cannot stop looking at them. I have to say that I was a little nervous with the gray sky, wind, and sprinkling (not to mention how uncooperative one of my children was), but the result was borderline miraculous. You have exceeded my expectations… and they were pretty high to start with. Thank you!!!
Cindy
Thanks to both of you for the kind words. I truly enjoyed photographing your children and I’m so glad you’re happy with the results!
